DAFNI
Dafni’s area is located in the North of Chalkida, and 30 kil. From the city centre and it is subject to Nerotrivia’s Municipal Division which in turn belongs to the Messapia Municipality.

DESCRIPTION
From Nerotrivia a sloping and winding road goes along the mountain, and through the pine-forested. Dafni it makes its way to the  gorgeous beach, lapped by the spectacular Kandili Mountain over looking the blue bay.
Along the seafront there is wide road presenting a succession of Pensions, residences, taverns and cafes, which give this area the category of an important tourist station.
Entering Dafni, visitors can came across the Basilica of
St. k John’s, an elaborate and recently restored church, built on a Palate Christian temple, as marble ruins uncover evidence, and is devoted to the memory of
St. John’s decapitation.

ARCHEOLOGICAL SITES – MONUMENTS
To the   South of the seacoast and close to a neighboring hillside, prehistoric shells were collected and traces of a posterior settlement were found out as well.

DINING OUT

NEROTRIVIA
Nerotrivia is the highest and most picturesque village. It is amphitheatrically built on the fringes of the mountain forest, overlooking the Euboea gulf. Also, every May 21st, on the occasion of the feast of Sts. Constantine and Helen, this village and its elaborately decorated into the scene of a pilgrimage, with the litany of the icon, in which popular piety and you offer a spectacle worth to be seen.

CHALKIDA
Chalkida is the capital city of Euboea, which looks like a peninsula off the eastern shore of central Greece but is, in fact, the second largest Greek Island after Creta. Chalkida is jailed to the mainland both by a swing and a newly built bridge over the straits of Euripus, which are famous for an unusual tidal current that zips through in alternative directions touchily every six hours, at speeds that vary from 4 to 6 knots depending on the moon. The old swing bridge is the best spot to watch this unusual phenomenon.

GETTING AROUND BY BUS – TRAIN OR FERRY BOAT
Chalkida, linked to Athens and Salonika, is a cosmopolitan city with an efficient network of bus routes funning out through the country to many major Greek cities, such as Salonika – Patras – Ioannina etc. More over Greek state Railways operates trains to North Greece and the Peloponnesus and car rental companies are available to facilitate your tips all over Euboea.
Chalkida is 81 kilometers from Athens and either you choose your car or take a bus from the central bus station it takes you roughly an hour to reach the capital of Greece. Alternatively, and especially in summer months, you can go down to Oropo's port any day of the week and take your pick of a score of cruise ships or fairy boats waiting to take  you to offshore Eretria within 30 minutes cruise. Another half an hour is enough to reach charming Chalkida in your car or by bus.

A REFRESHER COURSE IN EUBOEA’S  HISTORY
The history in Euboea is a chronicle of sieges, battles and struggles to regain independence. It used to be one of the most powerful cities in Ancient Greece, a separate city state with its own currency and a considerable nautical power. Since 2000 BC, when it was inhabited by the Iones, and until later years, the city was the ‘APPLE OF DISCORD’ for many conquerors.
Eretria often would declare was on Chalkida. Athens attacked the city in 5006 bc. While Macedonians followed. A hundred years later the Romans, then the Syrians and the Romans again took turns at attacking Chalkida.
In Byzantine times, Justinian fortified the city which was occupied by the Venetians and in 1040 AD. By the Turks.
In 1833 it was finally liberated when the entire Euboea was delivered to the Greeks by the Turks Pasha. In 1922, after the Minor Asia catastrophe, the whole region became a meeting point for a great number of Greek refugees, who contributed a lot to the island’s development and promotion.

SIGHTSEEING IN CHALKIDA
Here is a rough out line of what manes up Chalkida. The ‘KARABABA FORTRESS’ is only a few of the highlights of Euboeu’s capital. It was built in 1684 and was used by the Turks for their protection against Venetians raids. It is set on the Boeotia’s shore, towering over town and was built on the top of Kanithos hill. It will take you some minutes to climb up there. You can visit the old st. Prophet Elias chapter and enjoy unequaled views of Chalkida sipping your coffee or drink at the nearby cafes.
Just outside the fortress walls, you came deals Gianni’s Scaribas’  a man of letters, a novelist and poet.

MUSEUM OF GREEK FOLK ART
At Skalkotas Street, folk art, here includes, exhibits in 3 rooms.
You will find collections of Paintings, testaments, embroideries, festive and traditional costumes, rare coins, hand-woven, dresses and textiles, and several tools of every day use those times.
Finally, Chalkida boasts of its cleanest and liveliest beaches. Here we mention the most popular and  most attractive ones, such as Asteria – Liani Ammo – Souvala – Kourenti – Rodies and the Alikes vast beach. Besides, on July 26th, on the occasion, of the feast of St. Paraskeui, the patron saint, and its worth paying a visit to the local fair that lasts for 8 continuous days.
As to the gastronomic interests, Chalkida’s ouzo bars and snack bar, along the seafront, are much honored, featuring outstanding fishtitbits, such as octopus on charcoal, shrimps, calamari, and unequaled views of the blue sea!!
